Need a background check in Canada? We can help.
When you need a basic criminal record check (i.e. name and date of birth check-no fingerprints required), the most convenient, most discrete and fastest way is to apply online.
The online application process takes less than 15 minutes. You will be asked to fill out an online form and pay via credit card or PayPal. To verify your identity, Electronic ID Verification (elV) will ask you four questions about your credit history. Developed by Canada’s major credit bureaus, elV is used by most major financial institutions. Your application will be submitted automatically through a direct and secure connection to our police partners.
Criminal record checks using name and date of birth are processed within 15 minutes between 8am and 8pm EST Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Once processed, you will receive your results by email. If you do not (or cannot) answer the questions about your credit history to satisfy elV requirements, you will be required to present your identification in person at one of our offices or a participating Canada Post outlet. Likewise, if a name and date of birth check matches another individual after you complete your online application, fingerprints will be required.
This Criminal Record Check service was designed for individuals who do not have a criminal record and wish to prove they do not have a criminal record. If you have a criminal record, your only option is a different service: a criminal record check with digital fingerprints. You will need to appear in person.

Frequently Asked Questions
The identification required for fingerprint-based criminal record checks and background checks can vary depending on the check you need. In general, we ask you to bring two pieces of current (not expired) identification. These can include a driver license, passport, health card, citizenship card, PR card, work permit, study permit, record of landing, birth certificate and Refugee Protection Claimant Documents. Any government issued ID that has not expired – that is what we are looking for. If you are taking fingerprints for Canadian citizenship, you must bring the Immigration Canada letter requesting you to take fingerprints containing your UCI file number. For government employment, please bring the letter you received containing fingerprinting instructions and the address or governmental ORI where to send results to.
Yes, that’s the CPIC Check, also known as a Police Clearance, good conduct certificate or criminal background check. The Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) uses only a person’s name and date of birth to check in the RCMP database against any match with the same name and date of birth that shows a criminal record. If there is a match and you believe it to be a mistake (i.e. not you), you would need to get fingerprints for the RCMP CCRTIS criminal record check as this is more comprehensive. Note that some applications require fingerprint-based record checks while some do not; please be sure you are getting the right one before proceeding.
At Fingerprinting Place Versailles, our services extend beyond fingerprinting (though that is our top specialty) and background checks (another core strength) to applications for criminal pardons and USA waivers as well as an assortment of other ancillary services. We understand that navigating the bureaucratic maze of forms and requirements can seem overwhelming. Our staff is here to assist you in any way we can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Fingerprinting Place Versailles should you have questions or concerns.
When we deal with external agencies and authorities, e.g. the RCMP’s CCRTIS for fingerprint-based criminal record checks, we are at the mercy of their timeline. There is no expedited service available for additional payment in those cases. Should you be located outside Canada and require express delivery on your return shipment, please let us know so that we can discuss arrangements.
